Camera

Samsung’s S8 Plus camera is pretty cool.

12MP Rear Camera

The new 12-megapixel camera has a brighter F1.7 lens. This means that the lens allows more light into the camera, producing brighter photos with more clarity and definition.

8MP Selfie Camera

The front-facing camera has an 8-megapixel camera with an aperture of F1.8.

Smart Auto Focus

The selfie camera makes use of Smart Auto Focus which detects the faces in the selfie and puts them into focus.

Dual Pixel

The S8 Plus camera has Dual Pixels, a feature that lets your camera focus quicker than you would with your own eyes, giving you fast and seamless autofocus.

Pro Mode

The S8 Plus’ camera gives you more control over your photos. You can switch to Pro Mode which lets you alter ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, colour tone, manual focus and white balance.

Saving in RAW

For all of the professional photographers out there, this one’s a biggie. The Samsung S8 Plus’ Pro Mode means you can save a photo as a RAW file. A RAW file has 10x more data than a JPEG file, which gives you more control in the editing process.

Food Mode

The Samsung’s S8 Plus also has a unique Food Mode tool which makes your Insta-worthy lunch pics look that much yummier.

Hyperlapse

Hyperlapse, which is similar to time-lapse, lets you record a video in a sped-up fashion. You can change the speed of hyper-lapse too, either increasing or decreasing the frames per second.

Optical Zoom

The S8 Plus also has an optical zoom which works the same way as a zoom lens on a traditional camera. Optical zoom does a better job than digital zoom at taking photos from far away or in dull lighting as it does not degrade image quality when used.

Swipe From the Left, Swipe From the Right

The S8 Plus’ camera makes it easy for you to access its features. If you swipe from the left, you can access shooting modes. If you swipe from the right, get your filters, stickers, and stamps.

Video

The Samsung S8 Plus can record video up to 4K. The main benefit of 4K video is you get much smoother, sharper and clearer content that’s just beautiful to look at. The Samsung S8 Plus’ video also gives you extra features like time lapse which condenses an entire day into a few seconds, slow motion to catch every detail of that action shot and optical image stabilisation that removes that “shaky hands” look.

Screen and Display

  • 2960 x 1440 pixel HD+ resolution and can be changed to Quad HD+ in Settings
  • The S8 Plus has a 6.2 inch Super AMOLED capacitive multi-touch, curved edge display
  • It has Infinity Display, meaning your viewing experiences literally spills over the edges of the screen
  • The screen has 529 pixels-per-inch (ppi) density, which means more clarity and detail per inch on your screen
  • The display offers 16 million colours, giving a more realistic representation of colour in life
  • The screen is made of Gorilla Glass 5 and has been chemically strengthened, making it much tougher than earlier smartphones
  • The S8 Plus has Always On Display (AOD) functionality, meaning you won’t have to touch your phone in any way to check the time and date as it’s always shown on the screen. If you’re worried that AOD will drain your battery, don’t be - the feature only takes about 1% of battery life per day
  • The home button for the S8 Plus is no longer a physical button, but rather a touch screen feature on the screen. Simply tap to access the home screen!
